Ingredients
Scale
- All-purpose flour 3 1/2 cups
- Granulated sugar 1/2 cup
- Active dry yeast 2 1/4 teaspoons
- Milk 1 cup
- Unsalted butter 1/2 cup
- Eggs 2 large
- Pecan halves 1 1/2 cups
- Brown sugar 1 cup
Instructions
- Step 1: In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, and yeast. In a saucepan, heat milk and butter until butter is melted and mixture is warm. Add to dry ingredients, along with eggs. Mix until a shaggy dough forms.
- Step 2: Turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 5-7 minutes, or until smooth and elastic. Place in a greased bowl, turning to coat. Cover and let rise in a warm place for 1-1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.
- Step 3: While the dough is rising, prepare the caramelized pecan topping. In a saucepan, melt butter and brown sugar together over medium heat. Cook, stirring constantly, until sugar is dissolved and mixture is smooth. Remove from heat and stir in pecan halves.
- Step 4: Grease a 9×13 inch baking pan. Spread the caramelized pecan mixture evenly in the bottom of the pan.
- Step 5: Punch down the risen dough and roll it out into a 12×18 inch rectangle. Sprinkle dough with cinnamon sugar (optional). Roll up tightly, starting from the long side. Cut into 12-15 slices.
- Step 6: Place slices cut-side up in the prepared pan, spacing them evenly. Cover and let rise for another 30 minutes. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown. Let cool slightly before inverting onto a serving platter. Serve warm.
Notes
- Store cooled sticky buns in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days, or in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
- For a warm, gooey treat, reheat individual buns in the microwave for 15-20 seconds, or the whole pan covered in foil in a 350°F oven for about 10 minutes.
- Serve these sticky buns warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream for an extra-indulgent dessert.
- Don't skip the second rise; it ensures a light and airy texture that perfectly complements the rich, caramelized pecans.
