Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb ground pork
- 1/2 lb ground beef
- 1/2 cup finely chopped onion
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper (optional)
- 8 hamburger buns
- 1 cup coleslaw (store-bought or homemade)
Instructions
- Step 1: In a large bowl, combine ground pork, ground beef, onion, garlic, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, and cayenne pepper (if using). Gently mix with your hands until just combined. Do not overmix.
- Step 2: Form the meat mixture into 8 patties, about 1/2 inch thick.
- Step 3: Cook the patties in a large skillet over medium heat for about 4-5 minutes per side, or until cooked through. Drain off any excess grease.
- Step 4: While the patties are cooking, lightly toast the hamburger buns.
- Step 5: Place a cooked patty on the bottom half of each bun. Top with a generous scoop of coleslaw.
- Step 6: Cover with the top half of the bun and serve immediately.
Notes
- Store leftover patties in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days; they reheat beautifully in a skillet or microwave.
- For perfectly crisp buns, lightly brush them with melted butter before toasting.
- These sandwiches are even better with a side of your favorite potato salad or sweet potato fries, for a truly Southern feast.
- To avoid dry patties, don't press down on them while they cook; let the meat do its own thing for juicy, flavorful results.
