Delicious south carolina bird dog sandwiches recipe with detailed instructions and nutritional information.

  • Total Time: 35 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground pork
  • 1/2 lb ground beef
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped onion
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper (optional)
  • 8 hamburger buns
  • 1 cup coleslaw (store-bought or homemade)

Instructions

  1. Step 1: In a large bowl, combine ground pork, ground beef, onion, garlic, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, and cayenne pepper (if using). Gently mix with your hands until just combined. Do not overmix.
  2. Step 2: Form the meat mixture into 8 patties, about 1/2 inch thick.
  3. Step 3: Cook the patties in a large skillet over medium heat for about 4-5 minutes per side, or until cooked through. Drain off any excess grease.
  4. Step 4: While the patties are cooking, lightly toast the hamburger buns.
  5. Step 5: Place a cooked patty on the bottom half of each bun. Top with a generous scoop of coleslaw.
  6. Step 6: Cover with the top half of the bun and serve immediately.

Notes

  • Store leftover patties in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days; they reheat beautifully in a skillet or microwave.
  • For perfectly crisp buns, lightly brush them with melted butter before toasting.
  • These sandwiches are even better with a side of your favorite potato salad or sweet potato fries, for a truly Southern feast.
  • To avoid dry patties, don't press down on them while they cook; let the meat do its own thing for juicy, flavorful results.
