Delicious saltine toffee churro recipe with detailed instructions and nutritional information.

  • Total Time: 35 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup light corn syrup
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 package (16 count) saltine crackers

Instructions

  1. Step 1: Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine the sugar, corn syrup, water, butter, and salt. Stir constantly until the butter is melted and the sugar is dissolved.
  2. Step 2: Continue to cook, without stirring, until the mixture reaches 300°F (150°C) on a candy thermometer. This is the hard-crack stage.
  3. Step 3: Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract. Immediately dip each saltine cracker into the hot toffee mixture, ensuring both sides are coated. Place the coated crackers onto the prepared baking sheet.
  4. Step 4: Let the toffee cool and harden completely. This may take 30-45 minutes.
  5. Step 5: Once hardened, melt the chocolate chips in a double boiler or microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring until smooth. Drizzle the melted chocolate over the cooled saltine toffee.
  6. Step 6: Let the chocolate set completely before breaking the toffee into pieces and serving.

Notes

  • Store your Saltine Toffee Churros in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week, or freeze them for longer storage.
  • For a warm, gooey experience, gently reheat a few pieces in the microwave for 5-10 seconds.
  • Serve these delightful treats alongside a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dusting of cinnamon sugar for an extra touch of indulgence.
  • To prevent the toffee from becoming too hard, work quickly during the dipping process and ensure your baking sheet is completely level to promote even cooling.
