Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1/2 cup white chocolate chips
- 1/2 cup dark chocolate chips
- 1 (12 ounce) bag of fresh maraschino cherries, drained
- 1/4 cup red candy melts
- 1/4 cup blue candy melts
- 1 teaspoon vegetable oil
- Sprinkles (red, white, and blue)
Instructions
- Step 1: Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. In three separate microwave-safe bowls, place the semi-sweet chocolate chips, white chocolate chips, and dark chocolate chips. Microwave each bowl in 30-second intervals, stirring after each, until completely melted and smooth. Stir in 1/4 teaspoon vegetable oil into each bowl to help with the consistency.
- Step 2: Dip each maraschino cherry into the melted semi-sweet chocolate, ensuring it's fully coated. Place the chocolate-covered cherry on the prepared baking sheet.
- Step 3: In separate microwave-safe bowls, melt the red and blue candy melts in 30-second intervals, stirring until smooth. Add a tiny bit of vegetable oil if needed for easier dipping.
- Step 4: Once the semi-sweet chocolate has set slightly (about 5-10 minutes), drizzle melted white chocolate in a zig-zag pattern over the semi-sweet chocolate on half of the cherries. Drizzle melted dark chocolate in a zig-zag pattern over the other half.
- Step 5: Once the white and dark chocolate has slightly set, use a toothpick or small spoon to drizzle red and blue candy melts over the cherries in a festive design. Immediately sprinkle with red, white, and blue sprinkles.
- Step 6: Refrigerate the chocolate-dipped cherries for at least 15-20 minutes to allow the chocolate to fully set before serving.
Notes
- Store these festive treats in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week to maintain their freshness and prevent melting.
- For a delightful warm-chocolate experience, gently reheat a few cherries at a time in the microwave for 5-10 seconds, but watch carefully to avoid melting the chocolate completely.
- Serve these 'Cherry Bombs' as a delightful centerpiece for your 4th of July gathering, or include them in individual treat bags as party favors!
- To achieve perfectly smooth chocolate, use a double boiler instead of a microwave for melting – this method provides more even heat and prevents scorching.
