Ingredients
Scale
- 6 medium-sized apples (Granny Smith or other tart apples work best)
- 1 (1-quart) container of your favorite Kool-Aid powder (cherry, grape, or watermelon are popular choices)
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup light corn syrup
- 1/4 cup water
- 1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Optional: sprinkles, chopped nuts, or other candy decorations
Instructions
- Step 1: Wash and thoroughly dry the apples. Insert lollipop sticks into the tops of the apples.
- Step 2: In a medium saucepan, combine the sugar, corn syrup, water, and cream of tartar. Stir over medium heat until the sugar dissolves completely.
- Step 3: Continue to cook the mixture, without stirring, until it reaches 300°F (150°C) on a candy thermometer. This is the hard-crack stage. Be careful not to burn the sugar.
- Step 4: Remove the syrup from the heat and immediately stir in the Kool-Aid powder and vanilla extract until it's fully incorporated and the color is even.
- Step 5: Quickly dip each apple into the colored candy coating, swirling gently to create a marbled effect. If desired, immediately sprinkle with your chosen toppings before the candy sets.
- Step 6: Place the coated apples on wax paper to cool and harden completely (at least 30 minutes).
Notes

- Serve these show-stopping Kool-Aid Swirl Candy Apples at parties, picnics, or Halloween for a fun and flavorful treat that's sure to impress.
- To prevent sugar crystals from forming in the candy coating, make sure your saucepan and utensils are perfectly clean and dry before starting.
