Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup packed brown sugar
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 (14 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
- 1 (12 ounce) package semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1 cup chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)
Instructions
- Step 1: Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease a 9×13 inch baking pan.
- Step 2: In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
- Step 3: In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the creamed mixture, mixing until just combined.
- Step 4: Press half of the dough into the prepared baking pan.
- Step 5: Pour the sweetened condensed milk evenly over the crust. Sprinkle with chocolate chips and nuts (if using). Crumble the remaining dough over the top.
- Step 6: Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown. Let cool completely before cutting into bars.
Notes
- Store cooled bars in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days, or in the refrigerator for up to a week.
- For a warm and gooey treat, microwave individual bars for 10-15 seconds before serving.
- Cut these bars into small squares; they are rich and decadent, perfect with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
- Don't overmix the dough after adding the dry ingredients; a light hand ensures a tender, crumbly crust.
