Ingredients
- All-purpose flour: 3 cups
- Active dry yeast: 2 1/4 teaspoons
- Warm water (105-115°F): 1 cup
- Olive oil: 2 tablespoons, plus more for brushing
- Sugar: 1 tablespoon
- Salt: 1 teaspoon
- Garlic powder: 1 teaspoon
- Shredded mozzarella cheese: 2 cups
Instructions
- Step 1: In a large bowl, dissolve yeast and sugar in warm water. Let stand for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
- Step 2: Add olive oil, salt, garlic powder, and 2 cups of flour to the yeast mixture. Mix until a shaggy dough forms. Gradually add the remaining flour, kneading until the dough is smooth and elastic (about 5-7 minutes).
- Step 3: Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, turning to coat. Cover and let rise in a warm place for 1-1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.
- Step 4: Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Punch down the dough and divide it into 12 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a breadstick shape and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Step 5: Brush the breadsticks with olive oil and sprinkle generously with shredded mozzarella cheese.
- Step 6: Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly. Serve warm.
Notes
- Store cooled breadsticks in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days, or freeze for longer storage.
- To reheat, wrap the breadsticks in foil and warm them in a 350°F (175°C) oven for 5-10 minutes, or until heated through.
- Serve these cheesy breadsticks with a side of warm marinara sauce for dipping – a perfect appetizer or snack!
- For extra flavor, sprinkle the breadsticks with Italian seasoning along with the mozzarella before baking.
