Delicious grandma’s skillet spaghetti dish recipe with detailed instructions and nutritional information.

  • Total Time: 35 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 (28 ounce) can crushed tomatoes
  • 1 (15 ounce) can tomato sauce
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 pound spaghetti, cooked al dente

Instructions

  1. Step 1: Brown the ground beef in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Drain off any excess grease.
  2. Step 2: Add the chopped onion to the skillet and cook until softened, about 5 minutes. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.
  3. Step 3: Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Bring the mixture to a simmer, then reduce heat to low and cook for at least 15 minutes, stirring occasionally, to allow the flavors to meld.
  4. Step 4: Add the cooked spaghetti to the skillet and toss to coat it evenly with the sauce.
  5. Step 5: Simmer for another 5 minutes, allowing the spaghetti to absorb some of the sauce. Serve hot, optionally garnished with grated Parmesan cheese.

Notes

  • Leftovers store beautifully in the fridge for up to 3 days, making this a great make-ahead meal.
  • Reheat gently in the microwave or skillet, adding a splash of water if needed to prevent dryness.
  • Serve with a side of crusty bread for sopping up the delicious sauce – it's the perfect way to enjoy every last drop!
  • For a richer flavor, try browning the ground beef with a tablespoon of tomato paste before adding the onions; it adds depth and intensifies the overall tomato taste.
