Ingredients
Scale
- 4 slices Sourdough or Texas Toast bread
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter (softened)
- 4 slices sharp cheddar cheese or provolone
- 2 cloves fresh garlic (minced finely)
- 1/2 teaspoon dried parsley flakes
- 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1/8 teaspoon black pepper
Instructions
- Step 1: In a small bowl, combine the softened butter, minced garlic, dried parsley, kosher salt, and black pepper until fully mixed to create the garlic butter spread.
- Step 2: Spread a generous layer of the garlic butter mixture evenly onto one side of all four slices of bread.
- Step 3: Assemble the sandwich: Flip two of the slices (garlic butter-side down). Place two slices of cheese on the non-buttered side of each, then top with the remaining bread slices, ensuring the garlic butter is facing outward.
- Step 4: Preheat a non-stick skillet or griddle over medium-low heat. Place the sandwich in the pan (butter-side down) and cook for 3-4 minutes until the bread is golden brown and the garlic is fragrant.
- Step 5: Carefully flip the sandwich and cook the second side for an additional 3-4 minutes, pressing down lightly with a spatula until both sides are crispy and the cheese is completely melted.
- Step 6: Remove from the heat, slice in half diagonally, and serve immediately.
Notes
- The prepared garlic butter mixture can be stored tightly covered in the refrigerator for up to five days; let it soften slightly at room temperature before spreading.
- To restore the sandwich’s crispness, reheat leftovers in a toaster oven or air fryer at 300°F (150°C) for about five minutes.
- For a classic pairing, serve this rich sandwich alongside a warm cup of creamy tomato soup or a simple, vinegar-based side salad.
- Because fresh garlic burns quickly, ensure your skillet stays strictly on medium-low heat; this allows the cheese to fully melt before the garlic butter toasts to a perfect golden brown.
