Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups plain Greek yogurt (full-fat recommended)
- 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour (plus more for dusting)
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- ½ teaspoon baking soda
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 large egg, lightly beaten
- 1 tablespoon honey or maple syrup (optional)
Instructions
- Step 1: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Step 2: In a separate bowl, combine the Greek yogurt, olive oil, egg, and honey (if using). Stir until just combined; don't overmix.
- Step 3: Gently add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined. The dough will be slightly sticky. Do not knead.
- Step 4: Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface. Gently shape the dough into a log about 1 ½ inches in diameter. Cut the log into 8 equal pieces.
- Step 5: Gently roll each piece into a smooth ball. Place the bagels on the prepared baking sheet, leaving some space between them. Bake for 18-20 minutes, or until golden brown.
- Step 6: Let the bagels cool slightly on a wire rack before serving. Enjoy with your favorite toppings!
Notes
- Store leftover bagels in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days, or freeze them for longer storage.
- For a warm, chewy bagel, reheat them briefly in a toaster oven or on a lightly oiled skillet over medium heat.
- Elevate your bagel experience by serving them with a dollop of extra Greek yogurt, fresh berries, and a drizzle of honey.
- To avoid tough bagels, be gentle when mixing and shaping the dough—overmixing develops gluten, resulting in a less fluffy texture.
