Ingredients
Scale
- 1 package (16 ounces) chocolate sandwich cookies
- 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened
- 1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese, softened
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup heavy cream, cold
- 1/2 cup chocolate pudding mix (instant)
- 1/2 cup milk
- Gummy worms
- Chocolate shavings or mini eggs
Instructions
- Step 1: Crush chocolate sandwich cookies into fine crumbs using a food processor or by placing them in a zip-top bag and crushing with a rolling pin.
- Step 2: In a medium bowl, beat together the softened butter and cream cheese until smooth. Gradually add the powdered sugar and vanilla extract, mixing until well combined.
- Step 3: In a separate bowl, whip the cold heavy cream until stiff peaks form. Gently fold the whipped cream into the cream cheese mixture.
- Step 4: In a small bowl, whisk together the chocolate pudding mix and milk until smooth. Let it sit for a few minutes to thicken slightly. Then, gently fold the pudding mixture into the cream cheese and whipped cream mixture.
- Step 5: Layer half of the crushed cookies in the bottom of a trifle bowl or clear glass serving dish. Spread half of the cream cheese mixture on top of the cookies. Repeat the layers with the remaining cookies and cream cheese mixture.
- Step 6: Refrigerate for at least 2 hours to allow the cake to set. Before serving, decorate with gummy worms and chocolate shavings or mini eggs to resemble dirt and Easter treats.
Notes
- Store leftover Easter Dirt Cake in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
- This dessert is best served chilled, but if you prefer a slightly softer texture, let it sit at room temperature for 15-20 minutes before serving.
- For a whimsical presentation, use a variety of gummy worms and pastel-colored mini eggs to create a vibrant "Easter garden" on top.
- To prevent the cookies from becoming soggy, ensure the pudding mixture is only slightly thickened before adding it to the cream cheese mixture.
