Delicious easter chick cupcakes recipe recipe with detailed instructions and nutritional information.

  • Total Time: 35 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 box (15.25 ounces) yellow cake mix
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/3 cup vegetable oil
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 container (16 ounces) vanilla frosting
  • 1 package (1 ounce) mini chocolate chips
  • 1 package (2 ounces) yellow candy melts
  • Orange food coloring gel (small amount)
  • Small orange candy melts (optional)

Instructions

  1. Step 1: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a muffin tin with cupcake liners. Prepare the cake batter according to the instructions on the yellow cake mix box, using water, oil, and eggs.
  2. Step 2: Fill each cupcake liner about 2/3 full with batter. Bake for 18-20 minutes, or until a wooden skewer inserted into the center comes out clean. Let cupcakes cool completely in the muffin tin before frosting.
  3. Step 3: While the cupcakes are cooling, melt the yellow candy melts according to package directions. Once melted, add a tiny amount of orange food coloring gel and stir until you achieve a pale orange color. Set aside a small portion of this mixture for the beaks.
  4. Step 4: Once the cupcakes are completely cool, frost each cupcake generously with vanilla frosting. Place two mini chocolate chips on the top of each cupcake to create the eyes.
  5. Step 5: Using a toothpick or small spoon, carefully drizzle the pale orange candy melt mixture onto the top of the frosted cupcakes to create the chick's head. For the beaks, use the reserved small portion of the pale orange candy melt to create small triangle shapes either by using a piping bag or a spoon. Add small orange candy melts to the bottom of each "beak" for added detail (optional).
  6. Step 6: Let the candy melts set completely before serving.

Notes

  • Store leftover cupcakes in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days, or freeze them for longer storage.
  • For a warm, gooey treat, microwave individual cupcakes for 10-15 seconds.
  • Serve these adorable Easter Chick Cupcakes at your spring gathering or Easter brunch for a delightful treat that’s fun for all ages.
  • To prevent the chocolate chips from sinking into the frosting, lightly press them onto the frosting once it's applied to the cupcakes.
