Delicious delicious chicken hamburger gravy over mashed potatoes recipe with detailed instructions and nutritional information.

  • Total Time: 35 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings

Ingredients

  • Ground chicken: 1 pound
  • Chicken broth: 2 cups
  • All-purpose flour: 1/4 cup
  • Milk: 1/2 cup
  • Onion, chopped: 1/2 medium
  • Garlic, minced: 2 cloves
  • Olive oil: 1 tablespoon
  • Mashed potatoes: 4 cups (prepared)
  • Salt and pepper: To taste

Instructions

  1. Step 1: Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add chopped onion and cook until softened, about 5 minutes. Add minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.
  2. Step 2: Add ground chicken to the skillet and cook, breaking it up with a spoon, until browned and cooked through. Drain off any excess grease.
  3. Step 3: Sprinkle the flour over the cooked chicken and stir well to coat. Cook for 1 minute to cook out the raw flour taste.
  4. Step 4: Gradually pour in the chicken broth, stirring constantly to prevent lumps from forming. Bring to a simmer.
  5. Step 5: In a small bowl, whisk together the milk and a pinch of salt and pepper. Slowly pour the milk mixture into the simmering gravy, stirring constantly.
  6. Step 6: Continue to simmer the gravy for 5-7 minutes, or until it has thickened to your desired consistency. Season with additional salt and pepper to taste. Serve hot over mashed potatoes.

Notes

  • For easy meal prep, the hamburger gravy can be made a day ahead and stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
  • Gently reheat the gravy on the stovetop over medium-low heat, adding a splash of chicken broth or milk if needed to thin it out.
  • Garnish your serving with a sprinkle of fresh parsley or chives for a pop of color and fresh flavor.
  • To prevent lumps, make sure your chicken broth is cold when adding it to the flour-coated chicken.
