Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound cremini mushrooms, sliced
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika
- 1 cup milk
- Vegetable oil for frying
Instructions
- Step 1: In a shallow dish, combine the flour, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and paprika.
- Step 2: In a separate shallow dish, pour the milk.
- Step 3: Heat about 1 inch of vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
- Step 4: Dip each mushroom slice into the milk, then dredge it in the flour mixture, ensuring it's fully coated.
- Step 5: Carefully place the coated mushrooms into the hot oil, being careful not to overcrowd the pan. Fry for 2-3 minutes per side, or until golden brown and crispy.
- Step 6: Remove the fried mushrooms with a slotted spoon and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. Serve immediately.
Notes
- Store leftover fried mushrooms in an airtight container in the refrigerator, but expect them to lose some crispness.
- For best results, reheat the mushrooms in a single layer in an air fryer or oven to help restore some of their original crispiness.
- Serve these crispy mushrooms immediately with a creamy garlic aioli or your favorite dipping sauce for an irresistible appetizer.
- To ensure even coating, gently shake off excess milk and flour from the mushrooms before frying; this prevents clumping and promotes a crispier texture.
