Delicious cool whip & pudding frosting made easy and delicious! recipe with detailed instructions and nutritional information.

  • Total Time: 35 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 (3.4 ounce) package instant pudding mix, any flavor
  • 1 cup cold milk
  • 1 (8 ounce) container frozen whipped topping, thawed
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
  • Food coloring (optional)
  • Sprinkles or other decorations (optional)

Instructions

  1. Step 1: In a medium mixing bowl, whisk together the instant pudding mix and cold milk until well combined and the pudding starts to thicken. This should take about 1-2 minutes.
  2. Step 2: Gently fold in the thawed whipped topping into the pudding mixture. Be careful not to overmix, as this can deflate the whipped topping.
  3. Step 3: If desired, add the vanilla extract and a few drops of food coloring to achieve your desired color. Gently fold until evenly distributed.
  4. Step 4: Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to allow the frosting to set up and become more stable.
  5. Step 5: Once chilled, the frosting is ready to use. Spread or pipe onto your cake, cupcakes, or other desserts. Decorate with sprinkles, if desired.

Notes

  • Store leftover frosting in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days; a gentle stir will restore its fluffy texture.
  • This frosting isn't suitable for reheating, but if it gets too firm in the fridge, let it sit at room temperature for a few minutes to soften slightly.
  • For a delightful twist, try using different flavored pudding mixes to complement your cake or cupcakes!
  • To prevent a soupy frosting, ensure your whipped topping is fully thawed but still cold before folding it into the pudding.
