Ingredients
- Chow Mein Noodles: 1 pound
- Chicken Breast: 1 pound, thinly sliced
- Soy Sauce: 1/4 cup
- Oyster Sauce: 2 tablespoons
- Sesame Oil: 1 tablespoon
- Cornstarch: 1 tablespoon
- Brown Sugar: 1 tablespoon
- Vegetable Oil: 2 tablespoons
Instructions
- Step 1: Prepare the chow mein sauce by whisking together soy sauce, oyster sauce, sesame oil, cornstarch, and brown sugar in a small bowl. Set aside.
- Step 2: Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the sliced chicken and cook until browned and cooked through. Remove chicken from skillet and set aside.
- Step 3: Add the remaining 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil to the skillet. Add your choice of vegetables (e.g., sliced onions, carrots, bell peppers) and stir-fry until tender-crisp, about 5-7 minutes.
- Step 4: Add the cooked chicken back to the skillet with the vegetables. Pour the chow mein sauce over the mixture and cook, stirring constantly, until the sauce thickens, about 1-2 minutes.
- Step 5: Add the cooked chow mein noodles to the skillet and toss everything together until the noodles are evenly coated in the sauce and heated through. Serve immediately.
Notes
- Store leftover chow mein in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
- For best results when reheating, add a splash of water or broth to the chow mein before microwaving to prevent the noodles from drying out.
- Garnish your chow mein with chopped green onions and toasted sesame seeds for added flavor and visual appeal.
- To prevent the chicken from sticking, ensure your skillet is properly heated before adding the first tablespoon of oil.
