Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb chicken sausage, sliced into 1/2-inch thick rounds
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 small onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 head broccoli, cut into florets
- 1 cup orzo pasta
- 2 cups chicken broth
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Step 1: Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add chicken sausage and cook until browned on all sides, about 5-7 minutes. Remove sausage from skillet and set aside.
- Step 2: Add chopped onion to the skillet and cook until softened, about 3-5 minutes. Add minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.
- Step 3: Add broccoli florets to the skillet and cook for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until slightly tender-crisp.
- Step 4: Stir in orzo pasta and chicken broth. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 10-12 minutes, or until orzo is cooked through and liquid is absorbed.
- Step 5: Stir in cooked chicken sausage and Parmesan cheese. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Serve immediately.
Notes
- Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
- Reheat gently in a microwave or skillet to avoid drying out the orzo and sausage.
- Serve this hearty skillet dish with a side of crusty bread to soak up the delicious sauce.
- For extra flavor, add a pinch of red pepper flakes during the garlic cooking stage.
