Ingredients
Scale
- 2 large apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp), peeled, cored, and diced
- 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- ½ cup granulated sugar
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- 1 large egg
- ½ cup milk
- ¼ cup vegetable oil
- ½ cup powdered sugar
- 2–3 tablespoons milk (for glaze)
Instructions
- Step 1: Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
- Step 2: In a separate bowl, whisk together the egg, milk, and vegetable oil. Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and stir gently until just combined. Do not overmix. Fold in the diced apples.
- Step 3: Drop spoonfuls of the batter onto the prepared baking sheet, leaving some space between each fritter.
- Step 4: Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Let the fritters cool slightly on the baking sheet.
- Step 5: While the fritters cool, prepare the glaze by whisking together the powdered sugar and 2-3 tablespoons of milk until smooth. Adjust the amount of milk to achieve your desired consistency.
- Step 6: Drizzle the glaze over the cooled fritters and serve warm.
Notes
- Store leftover fritters in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days, or freeze them for longer storage.
- For a delightful warm-up, reheat fritters in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 5-7 minutes, or until heated through—the glaze will add a beautiful shine!
- Serve these fritters alongside a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream for an extra decadent treat.
- To prevent soggy fritters, avoid overmixing the batter; gently fold in the apples to maintain a light and fluffy texture.
